Re Mitt Wearables Ltd, Lakey v Macabuag & Ors [2023] EWHC 1800 (Ch) – Judgment

On 19 July 2023, judgment was handed down in Re Mitt Wearables Ltd, Lakey v Macabuag & Ors [2023] EWHC 1800 (Ch) by ICC Judge Prentis following a two-week trial.

The Judge dismissed an unfair prejudice petition presented by a co-founder of a company set up to develop and sell a new form of prosthetic upper limb. Matthew Parfitt and Mayer Brown International LLP acted pro bono for one of the successful respondents, who had co-founded the company based on his work at Imperial College.

At the end of the judgment, ICC Judge Prentis acknowledged the pro bono basis on which Matthew and Mayer Brown had acted, describing it as “a very substantial commitment to what has turned out to be a successful position”.
