Call: 2021
Recognised as a “Rising Star” in company law and offshore commercial disputes, Tom is a sought-after company and insolvency law junior. He has developed a particular expertise in shareholder disputes, both in this jurisdiction and offshore, alongside a full range of insolvency and corporate advisory work. He is frequently led within and outside chambers and appears as sole counsel in the High Court, Insolvency & Companies Court and County Court.
Recent highlights of Tom’s practice include:
- Aviva plc v Litani LLC [2025] EWHC 3134 (Ch) (High Court, with Martin Moore KC) – A dispute concerning the “proper purpose” limit on the right of access to a company’s register of members. The case addressed a novel point: is it a proper purpose to use the register to make a discounted mini-tender offer to retail shareholders in a listed company?
- Re Albury Land (Jersey) Limited (Royal Court of Jersey, with Ben Shaw KC) – A high-value shareholder dispute concerning a commercial property company, including claims for breach of a shareholders’ agreement and for winding up on the just and equitable ground.
- Northstar Financial Services (Bermuda) Ltd (Supreme Court of Bermuda, with Michael Todd KC and Philip Morrison) – Acting for the joint provisional liquidators of Northstar, a significant Bermudian financial services company. The case involved, for the first time, a comprehensive judicial examination of the client money legislation in Bermuda.
