During a 3-month secondment to Slaughter and May’s corporate/M&A department, Olivia was involved in a variety of matters with highlights including:

  • Advising on the application of the financial assistance rules to a proposed takeover by a public company
  • Advising a registered society in relation to the conduct of its affairs
  •  Providing a broad range of contractual advice in relation to agreements involving international companies in the financial services and telecommunications sectors
  •  Assisting with a matter concerning the compatibility of an LLP agreement with regulatory requirements
  •  Assisting with a public company’s board effectiveness review
Litigation

As a Judicial Assistant, Olivia worked on two high profile trials in the Commercial Court and Chancery Division, namely:

  • Suppipat & Ors v Narongdej & Ors [2023] EWHC 1988 (Comm) (as judicial assistant to Mr Justice Calver) – a US $2 billion multi-party fraud claim concerning the sale of Thailand’s largest wind energy company. This case was one of The Lawyer’s “Top 20 Cases of 2022” and involved a 20-week trial.
  • The Duke of Sussex & Ors v MGN Limited [2023] EWHC 3217 (Ch) (as judicial assistant to Mr Justice Fancourt) – part of the fourth wave of the Mirror Newspapers Hacking Litigation, this case concerned four test claims against MGN Limited for alleged misuse of private information.
